Kinofilm has been celebrating the talents of emerging and established filmmakers through the Manchester International Short Film and Animation Festival® and Kino Shorts showcasing and networking events for over 20 years. The festival has a unique reputation for showcasing world class short films and debut features from around the world and is renowned for seeking out diverse, challenging and ground-breaking new films.
John approached me in December 2018 to talk about the prospect of developing a new website for the Kinofilm festival. Their website had not been updated for many years, and they were more than ready for a makeover. Being a non-profit meant that resources were slim, but much of the framework was already in place which meant that the focus could be solely on a new site.
Small resources meant we had to be creative, but after discussions, we agreed to provide the website design and maintenance as part of a sponsorship deal. A custom theme was developed with a built-in event calendar, as well as custom post types for festivals and films. Posts were connected by custom redirects and taxonomies, which allowed for each year's festival to take centre stage.
